Project description
The Vanke Chengdu Green Research and Development Center serves as a pilot project exploring how landscape design can be seamlessly integrated with prefabricated and standardized architecture. As a pioneering effort within Vanke’s industrial park program, the project redefines the role of open space—not as a decorative addition, but as an active ecological system that supports resilience, sustainability, and identity.
Inspired by the principles of sponge city design and rainwater neighborhood strategies, the project establishes a fully integrated rainwater management system. Runoff from the sloping roofs is channeled through stepped infiltration gardens and waterfall features into a central reservoir, where it is recycled through subsurface pumps. The site’s modular permeable paving further enables natural infiltration, directing surface water to storage basins and stormwater facilities below.
Every element—from green roofs and water circulation systems to prefabricated benches and sculptures—reflects the project’s focus on efficiency, adaptability, and sustainability. As a VIP supplier for Vanke’s industrial parks, the team developed a model for disaster-resilient, low-maintenance sponge landscapes that merge technology and design. Since completion, the project has been widely recognized across the industry for its innovation and ecological performance.
